Project background and animation aims

This animation was created in collaboration with Brent Looked After Children’s Services and a group of the children and young people they support.

The aims of the animation are:

1. to shed light on the experiences of young people within the system,

2. to raise awareness of their lived experiences amongst the professionals, carers and people they interact with, and

3. to empower the young people themselves by providing them with a creative outlet and an opportunity to tell their stories.

Involvement through interactive workshops

Throughout the creative process, the young people involved were consulted and considered at every stage, putting them authentically at the heart of both the developmental stages and the final animation.

We ran interactive concepting, drawing and storyboarding workshops online, as well as facilitating offline feedback sessions for the young people in collaboration with the team at Brent Looked After Children’s Services. This allowed us to ensure that everyone’s voices could be heard in a way that suited them.

Involvement through artwork and narration

The use of the young people’s artwork, combined with the voices of young people as the narrators, creates an accessible, engaging and impactful education tool, allowing us to share experiences that are often hard to represent or talk about, in a way that feels gentle and inclusive, as well as being informative and useful.

Post-launch plaudits

Following the launch of the animation, we were thrilled to be informed that it had been shortlisted as a finalist for both the HSJ Patient Safety Awards in the category of ‘Improving Care for Children and Young People Initiative of the Year’, and the Nursing Times Awards in the ‘Children’s Services’ category.

CC Animation Studio are so pleased to have played our part in creating a piece of work that gives a voice to those who truly deserve to be heard, and that this has been recognised by audiences and judges alike.
