What to do about self neglect

Project background
Commissioned by a coalition of adult safeguarding boards in the northeast of England, this animation looks at the difficult topic of self neglect, how to recognise the warning signs and who you can contact for help.
Difficult conversation is something we specialise in at CC Animation Studio – this animation is intended to raise awareness and to be used as a tool to start a conversation with someone you may be worried about.
How we created the explainer animation
When scripting this animation, it was important to convey a sense of understanding that there are many difficulties that can lead to self neglect and that there is no shame in asking for help, as this can be a key factor that prevents those who suffer from self neglect from reaching out.
Balanced with this was the reality that many cases of self neglect can lead to extreme living situations which become unsafe for the individual and sometimes those around them. It was important not to shy away from this reality; to inform the imagery used in the animation, the client shared with us their experiences of visiting homes and some real images of houses they had visited.

This video has been offered by North East SAR Champions for use by other adult safeguarding boards and organisations working in this field who may find this animation useful. CC Animation Studio has been given permission to create rebadged versions of the animation to include the contact details of organisations who wish to use this animation to point viewers in their local area to services that can offer help.
