The Language Toolkit

The Language Toolkit is used as a training video to show how to avoid giving unintended offence or creating work that could be used to fuel misunderstandings or false ideologies.

Using Genomics England’s new brand style to keep the animation in line with the rest of their website, we created this animation with them to help explain how to use their Academic Language Toolkit.

Testimonial

“The team were incredibly helpful with making a training animation video for us at Genomics England. Work was delivered on time, and I felt involved in all key decision-making throughout the process. Dann went out of his way to find a recording studio for me in London and did multiple edits of the work. Thanks, team!”

Now and in the Future

Following a recent rebranding, Genomics England asked us to create a new video about the value of Genomic Medicine, that matched their new house style.

Help us solve the COVID-19 puzzle

We’ve made several films for Genomics England, including this three-film series. The series looks at different aspects of a project designed to gather patient data to understand why some people are more affected by the COVID-19 virus than others. Working at the height of the lockdown in 2020, we used digital animation so that everyone involved in the project could work in isolation.

Have you ever wondered why some people catch COVID-19 and suffer no symptoms while others find themselves in intensive care, or worse? The answer may well be in your genes…

These three videos were created to show people how they can help Genomics England solve the COVID-19 puzzle!

Keeping your data safe – getting the best from it

When we got an email from Genomics England asking us to make them another animation, we were really excited to work with them again.

As experts in difficult conversations and hard-to-explain topics, we’ve made quite a few scientific animations for them over the years; films that sought to reassure the slightly sceptical British public that not only was their data safe with Genomics England but also that it was being put to the best possible use!

What was most surprising was the deadline – we normally suggest six to eight weeks to create a high-quality explainer film; they needed it done over a weekend.

As fans of Vivienne Parry, from her days as a presenter of the BBC Science and Technology programme Tomorrow’s World through to her work as a ground-breaking scientific journalist and communicator, we weren’t going to let the fact that this was a near-impossible deadline prevent us from working on the project!

We started brainstorming ideas and within an hour of our call had put a team together and started work on the animation above.

Ada Jusic (artist) and Tom Barter (editor) did a phenomenal job – on very little sleep! – producing an edit with entirely original characters and full motion graphics editing over a weekend.

“We gave them an impossible turnaround time and they came up trumps. Although, obviously, we are lovely people, we are quite demanding but they managed to cope and continue to smile. Very highly recommended!”
