Care Quality Commission

Public payments policy

The CQC asked us to help them create a creative explainer animation to help explain their public payments policy. We created this film using entirely digital techniques with the aim of making this potentially dry topic creative, impactful and easy to understand for anyone that needs the information it contains.

Restraint and Seclusion Report Animation

This film describes the findings of a CQC report into the use of restraint and seclusion within care for settings, we used the Artist Caroline Rudge to illustrate a number of carefully written case studies based on real life events.

Promoting sexual safety through empowerment

This film is a supplemental communication that helps to disseminate the findings of a recent report. It is about how people in mental health wards and other forms of care accommodation can safely enjoy a sexual and romantic life. It also covers the uncomfortable subjects of patients with reduced inhibitions and the abuse of residents by those that are meant to be caring for them.

We used the established comic book artist and author Sarah Burgess, who specialises in conveying complex emotions through the subtle but brilliantly observed facial expressions of her original characters.

Creating communications around difficult conversations and making films and animations on topics that many would shy away from is an important part of our business. As an animation company, it is empowering to work on a project like this. The artist Sarah Burgess did amazing work on the animation, and we are grateful to the Care Quality Commission for being brave enough to shed light on these issues.

Visit Sarah Burgess’ website to see more of her work.

Filmed and edited in our Bristol animation studio at Meriton Foundry in St Philips.

“CC Animation Studio were amazing to work with. They took what is a really difficult subject to talk about and handled it with delicacy and tact without losing any of its impact. They helped us to be brave without taking foolish risks.

We were extremely happy with the artwork as well. The finished film has been very well received. It should win awards!
