The Mushroom Hunters

In collaboration with musician Amanda Palmer and author Neil Gaiman, CC Animation Studio created an animated film to bring Neil’s Rhysling Award-winning poem The Mushroom Hunters to life.

As a company made up of artists, comic book artists and writers, getting the chance to collaborate with Amanda Palmer and Neil Gaiman on this project was a dream come true.

Voiced by Amanda and funded via her Patreon page, the film features an amazing original score by Jherek Bischoff.

On its release, this poetry film had over 100,000 views in less than a week, and the numbers continue to rise as people share it with their friends.

To create the film, CC Animation Studio artist Caroline Rudge used a multi-layered rig to add visual depth to her unique illustrations. We coupled stop motion techniques alongside some very subtle digital graphics and motion graphics to create a piece of animation that is as visually stunning as the poem is thought-provoking.

This project was a springboard for CC Animation Studio to use the animation and editing skills that we’ve honed from creating hundreds of explainer animations, website intro videos and homepage films into the more creative worlds of animated credit sequences, music videos and television and film inserts. So please don’t hesitate to let us know if you need something beautiful to bring your project to life!

This animation was filmed at the Pound Arts Centre in Corsham near Bath.
