Newcastle Safeguarding Adults Board: Home Takeover
Animation background
This animation was a collaborative project between Newcastle Safeguarding Adults Board, the Newcastle Safeguarding Children Partnership and the Safe Newcastle Board, with input from Northumbria University.
Aims of the animation
The film aims to give the viewer insight into what home takeover is, the signs to look out for, how concerns can be reported, why people may be reluctant to engage with professionals, and where people can seek advice and support for themselves or someone they are concerned about.
Telling their stories
The audience is encouraged to follow the journeys of several diverse, richly illustrated characters, each representing a varied range of people, situations and life experiences. These individuals are portrayed in full colour and detail, a deliberate choice made by both the artist and the client to bring the characters’ stories to life and root the film in genuine, authentic human experiences.
In contrast, the perpetrators appear only as dark silhouettes, featureless and faceless, reinforcing the idea that the focus should remain on the victims, not those who have harmed them.
This powerful and deliberate visual contrast encourages the audience to empathise deeply with the individuals on screen and reflect on the unsettling reality that home invasion can affect anyone, regardless of their background.
Available for re-badging
The topic of this animation is nationally relevant, and we are delighted that Newcastle SAB and its collaborators have generously offered to share this film for use by other safeguarding boards and organisations across the country.
To facilitate this, CC Animation Studio has produced a de-regionalised version of the animation, enabling us to create new end slides with contact details for your local organisation, so the animations can reach and help far more people across the UK.
Please get in touch with us to find out more about this service and the other animations we have available for re-badging.
