The Fundraising Regulator: Fundraising Preference Service

Project background

The Fundraising Regulator commissioned us to remake some of the existing films on their website to make them consistent with each other and their brand guidelines, and to bring them up to date.

In this explainer animation, we combine digital animation with filmed elements, giving it a friendly real-world setting and adhering to brand guidelines using the Fundraising Regulator’s colour palette.

Working within brand guidelines

We worked with the Fundraising Regulator’s brand colours to create some fun semi-real-world objects that could be used to tell the stories they wanted to tell.

We needed to show letters arriving from many charities, but of course, it would have been inappropriate to use real charity logos. So, our artist Jo put her graphic design skills to use and created several imaginary logos, which we then printed onto real envelopes, adding faux franking machine barcodes to complete the look!

Animation summary

This animation is about the Fundraising Preference Service, a free service run by the Fundraising Regulator that can help you, or someone you know, to end contact with charities you no longer want to hear from.

The FPS is the UK’s official service that can help you manage direct marketing communications sent by addressed mail, emails, text messages, or phone calls from registered charities in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Using the FPS, you can stop direct marketing communications from charities registered with the Charity Commissions for England and Wales or Northern Ireland, including any contact that contains a fundraising ask, such as a request for a donation.

It takes just three easy steps:

  1. Search by registered charity number or charity name.

  2. Select the channels of communication you wish to opt out of – you can choose addressed mail, emails, text messages or phone calls.

  3. Enter your contact details, and the FPS will take care of the rest.

You can use the FPS for yourself or on behalf of a friend, relative, someone you care for, or someone who has passed away. You can still use the service even if you have previously given consent for the charity to stay in touch.

You could contact individual charities directly, but using the FPS can save time by ending contact with multiple charities at once. You can select up to 10 charities in any one visit to the FPS website. If you want to stop communications with more charities, simply submit a new FPS request.

Alternatively, you can manage contact from up to 20 charities by calling 0300 3033 517. Please ensure you know the registered charity's numbers or name before calling.
